  • Right to know and to self-determination — Patients have the right to receive a full explanation from the attending physician, nurse or other staff about their condition, treatment methods, whether they are the subject of medical research, organ transplantation, expected outcomes including side effects, and medical costs; to ask detailed questions; and to decide whether to give consent.
  • Right to confidentiality — Patients' physical and health-related confidentiality and privacy in connection with treatment may not be infringed, and medical personnel and medical institutions may not disclose or publish such information except with the patient's consent or in cases prescribed by law, such as criminal investigations.
  • Right to request consultation and mediation — Patients may request consultation and mediation from the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency and other bodies to resolve disputes related to medical services.
