Dr. Juyoung Go
Story

From a student who meant to be an artist
to a plastic surgeon

As a child she won prizes at art competitions and was preparing to apply to art school. But she could not let go of a long-held dream of becoming a doctor, and chose plastic surgery, where art and medicine meet, entering Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine.

As an intern, resident and clinical fellow in the Department of Plastic Surgery at Samsung Medical Center, she trained across reconstructive and aesthetic surgery alike: breast reconstruction and breast surgery, abdominoplasty and female genital reconstruction. She published several papers on flap surgery and microsurgery, one of which received the Outstanding Paper Award of the Korean Society for Microsurgery.

She then broadened her experience in both reconstruction and aesthetics through training at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, and performed breast, facial, abdominal and female genital surgery and lifting treatments at several plastic surgery clinics in Seoul and Busan before opening her own atelier.

The Art of Plastic Surgery by Dr. Juyoung Go

The eye for form is the same
in the operating room

What she learned from studying art was not technique but an eye for form and proportion. The position of the breast and the ratio of nipple to areola, the curve of the abdomen, the shadows cast by facial volume. Even now, pre-operative design begins with drawing by hand.

That is why surgery at Atelier Plastic Surgery looks for "right" rather than "more." We plan for balance rather than size, and for the proportion of the whole body rather than one area.

Training

Safety learned in reconstruction
becomes the standard for aesthetics

Training in reconstructive surgery at a university hospital means learning about tissue blood supply and nerves, infection and complications before anything else. The experience of reconstruction after mastectomy, flap surgery and microsurgery is now the safety standard for her aesthetic surgery.

This is also why she can take on surgery with difficult tissue conditions, such as breast revision, tuberous breasts and body contouring after weight loss. Invitations to lecture on preventing and managing complications are the result.

Two Axes

Breast and face:
society positions in two fields

Dr. Juyoung Go is an Academic Committee member of the Korean Society of Breast Plastic Surgery and a Steering Committee member of the Minimally Invasive Plastic Surgery Society. In both breast surgery and minimally invasive facial anti-aging, she holds positions given to her by fellow surgeons.

The topics she is invited to speak on are breast lift and the choice of incision pattern, complications and revision surgery. On the face, her lectures on fillers and skin boosters that look at the structure of the lower face have continued, and in 2026 she was also invited to a dermatology society meeting. This is why the breast and face categories on this site are the most extensive.
